Welcome to the 91st Carnival of Homeschooling! Hi! I’m Eric Novak, and I’m going to be your guide, so hop on the tram and take a little ride around the fair grounds with me. We have quite a bit of ground to cover, so I’m going to get started right away! This carnival’s theme is the Fall County Fair.

Fair Sponsor
See that big banner hanging in front of the gate? That’s our sponsor APMFormulators. They’re giving away 6 Free Dr. Mom Otoscopes from P&M Dermasalve Compounders, so be sure to visit their site and see how you can win a free Ostoscope!

Guest Relations
Do you need a little help finding your way around? If you need a map or your kids get lost, come right back here to the guest relation booth and one of the information clerks will be glad to help you find your way to your destination! If you’re new to homeschooling or a veteran needing some encouragement, this is definitely the place for you.

Jacque at Seeking Rest in the Ancient Paths explains why Teaching Children Responsibility at Home is so important.
April from Lunablog explores how the “sharp little talons” of perfectionism hold us back and keep us down in Perfectionism – What is it good for? Absolutely Nuthin!
Heather from Sprittibee shares a Real-Time Homeschool Day Re-Cap. She encourages everyone to be thankful for making progress and building character and not just academics!

Susan from Kerugma shows us that it is okay to take a break, even if it lasts a year! Biblically it is very acceptable to have A Sabbatical Year in Homeschooling.

Soap Box
Once in a while we homeschoolers have to tell others what’s on our minds. In fact, homescoolers in general love to hear what’s on other people’s minds. So listen closely as these fair goers get on their soap boxes and tell it like it is! Of course, with the coming elections we have some people throwing in their two cents about the candidates!
Katherine from No fighting, no biting offers a proposition for reducing the tax burden on homeschoolers in Your Tax Dollars and Mine!
The Tutor from Apollos Academy tells us why HSLDA Shouldn’t Endorse Federal Candidates.

MCMilker from The Not Quite Crunchy Parent explains how classically educated kids have different interests than typical kids and what may be the cause in Does Your Kid Sound Like he’s 30?
Socialization. People often blame homeschool parents for controlling their children too much by sheltering them, but Miss Jocelyn of Lothlorien disagrees in Socialized: Good or Bad?

Commercial Booths
Almost everyone is trying to get the attention of the passersbys, but these homeschoolers will have no trouble grabbing your attention.
Rose from Learning at Home is having way too much fun at her booth. Stop by for some samples and learn the history of marshmallows with Sticky Science.
Life without School is taking a poll! What is unschooling? and How do you unschool?

Beverly from About Homeschooling has some printable worksheets and resources in Weather Printables.
Supposedly if I wrote this introduction in blue, you would be more inclined to read it. Is that why our links are highlighted in blue? Blue is supposed to increase an individual’s willingness to read something 80%. It’s a motivational color! Jennifer of Tomorrow is another Day will tell us why in The Power of Color.

Agricultural Shed
Nancy from The King’s Kreation shares the story of nurturing her husband’s faith after they lost their house in a fire in How’s it Growing??. Then her husband Gerald, from Shedding Notes, will give us some great tips for Canning Vegetables.

Melanie from Just One of Four wonders if it’s worth the trouble to attend her family reunion. Learn the answer in Family Reunion.
Julee from Homeschooling Daze Blog reminisces about her own homeschool days and talks about how bit by bit the Lord is binding her family together while homeschooling in the midst of autism. She is Homeschooling Day by Day.

AWESOME!!! Hey Eric! You did a fantastic job of putting the Carnival together, it’s all collaborated so nicely. I haven’t read all the entries but I will over the next few days. Thanks for inviting Gerald and I to join in with a post from blogs! We really appreciate all the hard work you did to put this on! GRRRREAT JOB!
Toodles!
Great job! I really enjoyed your theme, it’s my favourite so far.
Ah, I see you picked one for me. You rock.
Fantastic job, Eric! I can’t wait to read all the entries and am so excited at the timeliness of some of them for me!
Nice job hosting the carnival. Sorry I didn’t have anything to contribute!
~Mandy
Great carnival! Thanks for all of the work you put into it. It really paid off!
Hey there,
Very nice, very nice indeed! I was able to visit a few of the links earlier today and will probably be visiting others throughout the week. I’ll “promote” the carnival tomorrow.
RYC: Ahem *clears throat*, yeah, believe it or not, Power Rangers are yet another strange “dimension” of my past. At least Gene is WAY better than them.
And I’m so glad you’ll be doing the ‘Systematic Theology’ study! I still need to go read ch. 18 and 19.
Anyhoo, come check out my post for today: What’s wrong with this picture? And let me know what you think!
-Melanie
I’ve given you the “You Make Me Smile Award” come by my blog and pick it up.
Nancy
RYC: Really? I can’t wait to see what you have to say!
And, as I said, Power Rangers is a “’strange’ dimension of my past”, entirely. I hadn’t even thought about them in years! Basically, when I was around 10 and we had just moved, our new neighbors got us all hyped up about them. And that’s what we played (and watched) every day. For almost 3 years. So now you know something most people don’t know about me.
In fact, I’m not sure that my “best” friend even knows that. :-\ Weird.
Catch ya’ later!
-Melanie
Great job Eric!! Thanks for using my post and telling me about it! You did great putting this all together! It’s very neat.
~Brooke~
Yeah. if I thought really hard I might could find something, but it’s remembering to think really hard about something to blog about that’s the problem.
I really enjoyed the Carnival this week. You did a really nice job.
Amazing list Eric–I will be spending hours reading all these great links–
